Phosphene ReverieGlass Rice, San Franciscoon view > July 3rdThe last week of May through June saw us welcoming artist LUPA’s solo show at Glass Rice in San Francisco. Titled Phosphene Reverie, the exhibition draws its name from the phosphene phenomenon, the flickers of light or colour seen with closed eyes, an apt metaphor for LUPA’s paintings, which evoke dreamlike states and emotional landscapes suspended between memory and sensation. Phosphene Reverie shows eight paintings by LUPA, including two new works: ‘Sanctum’ and ‘Edelweiss’, on view at Glass Rice, San Francisco.

Sanctum (2025), 40 x 30 cm./15.7 x 11.8 in. /Oil on linen: Sanctum evokes a sacred feminine temple, where the boundaries between body and spirit, nature and dream, dissolve. The flower becomes a guardian of the inner self, a refuge for softness, strength, and quiet rebirth.
I first met LUPA around 15 years ago one winter in London. A student at Central St. Martin’s, her creations - a world of whimsical memory and mystery, held my attention back then when I was navigating the world of fine art and auctions. Fast forward to 2024, a visit to Taipei at her studio allowed us to connect once again in person and I felt compelled to share her work with a new audience. Thank you to Glass Rice in San Francisco for sharing the vision and to LUPA for trusting us. Please let me know if you’d like more information on her art, it would be my pleasure to share in more detail.
An exhibition we loved…
